SUPPORT CREW RECOGNITION POST.

The majority of The Weight We Carry’s social media posts might give you the idea that Tom and Kyle portaged two canoes to Mount Everest Base Camp absolutely on their own! In reality this is completely untrue, we in fact had an extremely dedicated support crew of family members and friends who were an integral aspect of the expedition in Nepal and who are still involved in fundraising, documentary building and ongoing general assistance. .

This post is for @maggiesiebss. Maggie had originally committed to travelling to Nepal and hiking “part of the way” to Mount Everest base camp while assisting with social media, logistics and general expedition support. She did not want to be a burden on the team if she had to turn back early and had therefore set a goal of hiking as far a Namche Bazaar (3340 Meters / 10 958 Ft) and seeing how her body was holding up to past injuries. Not only was Maggie able to outdo herself by trekking through the Himalayan mountain range and into the high-altitude of village of Namche Bazaar, but she continued on for 18 massive days, subsequently completing the trek to Mount Everest Base Camp (5380 Meters / 17600 Ft) and back! Maggie not only provided the team with fresh hand-purified drinking water each morning, second to none comradeship throughout the journey and the solidarity of developing the worst chillblains you have ever seen (!!!!) but she also provided us something even more important. INSPIRATION!

It was just over one year ago today that The Weight We Carry finished the inaugural portage expedition to Mount Everest Base Camp (and back)!!!! The project aimed to raise mental health awareness as well as fundraising for the construction of the Koshish Women’s Mental Healthe Centre in Nepal. This amazing centre will help disadvantaged Nepalese Women with mental illness in absolutely dire life circumstances receive the professional mental health support they require. We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that construction has begun on the centre and a year on from the expedition the journey is still on going. We have raised a whopping $100 000 but we still need your help to reach our goal of raising $150 000 for the construction of The Women’s Mental Health Centre in Nepal.
